The tradition of decorating a tree is something we all associate with Christmas. There is something truly magical about the brightly coloured glass ornaments, the shiny tinsel and the twinkle of tiny lights nestling against the dark green branches. It is a relatively new custom, brought to England in the early 19th century by the then royal family but didn’t become more widespread throughout Britain until the marriage of the young princess Victoria to Prince Albert in 1841.
