Facial Exfoliation
There are a very wide range of exfoliants and brighteners available for the face. The skin is this area can be more sensitive and therefore the products are more gentle and can feel less grainy and won’t scratch the face, the will polish off the dead skin without causing too much erythema or redness. Its is important to remember when exfoliating the face to include the neck, as this can give a fresher look.
The benefits of regular exfoliation on the face are the skin has a more even tone, moisturisers are more effective, it can help to prevent break-outs and gives a smoother base for your make-up.
Body Exfoliation
We all know how much we hate the look of cellulite and uneven tone on the body, but the importance of exfoliation here cannot be underestimated. As the skin on the body is likely to be less sensitive, you are more likely to find that the products are rougher to the touch and contain larger grains such as salt or sugar. The most effective method is to start at the ankles and using a circular motion going up towards the heart. This helps to increase lymphatic flow which aids the release of toxins and helps to boost the circulation. Pay attention to areas such as elbows, knees and often unforgotten areas like the tops of the arms. Exfoliation here really needs to be done twice a week.
Finally, remember with exfoliation, by whatever method you use, use a good moisturiser afterwards!
