IS IT TIME TO DETOX ?

It is not a bad idea to start cutting back on some of the food
and drink - that may have stressed our bodies - with the
goal of having more of a “spring clean” in March when
clocks go forward, days are longer and the weather is
warmer. After spending the winter in “hibernation” mode
– when most of us would have eaten more, cut back on
exercise and got less fresh air and sunlight – Spring is the
optimal time to detoxify. Remember that if you are under
the Doctor’s care, ill, or are in general poor health, you
should always get proper medical advice before starting a
detoxifying program.
To start the detoxifi cation process you should eat foods
as close to their raw state as possible and gradually reduce
“stressors” such as caff eine, alcohol, processed/readymade
foods and foods high in fats, sugars and salts. At the same
time, start increasing your intake of fruit and vegetables
– the more colourful the better. Also, increase your water
intake and opt for lean protein such as fi sh, chicken, tofu
and pulses. Eat organic, whenever possible, to cut down
on the exposure to pesticides and chemicals. Exercise and
fresh air can be benefi cial, so wrap up and go for country
walks or a stroll along the beach.
Detoxifi cation does not have to be extreme to be eff ective
and a gentler approach is often a safer choice. Ideally, a
cleansing programme should be tailored to an individual’s
needs in order to reduce any adverse reactions. Th e guidance
of a practitioner should be sought before embarking on
any extreme detoxifi cation programmes.
