A dedicated website is run by the council to help connect people making the same journeys. The local authority is working with partner organisations including the Isle of Wight College and Chamber of Commerce to promote the scheme. Carshare Wight is part of the number one online car-share network – liftshare – and enables people to quickly and easily find a car-share match completely free of charge.

Cllr Edward Giles, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for the environment and transport said: “The recent cold weather has shown what a great sense of community spirit the Island has. By linking together to share journeys people can do their bit for the environment while sharing travel costs.”
