PGA - Golf Tips from Westridge Golf Centre

POSTURE
1. Stand tall with your shoulders back. 2. With your fist
in the small of your back hold a club along your spine
3. You should feel it touch your lower back, between your
shoulder blades and the back of your head
1.Take your posture by pushing your chest forward and
your hips backwards, ensuring you keep all three points
touching the club. 2. Allow your head to relax to enable
you to focus your eyes easily on the golf ball.
3.Your hands should hang comfortably under your chin.
4. Flex your knees placing the weight onto the balls of
your feet. 5. The weight should be towards the toes but
you should still be able to wiggle them!
GRIP
THE hands should be in close contact with each other
and should act ‘as one’ and not 2 separate hands. Whether
you use the ‘baseball’ grip, interlocking grip or the Vardon
(over lapping) grip the same principles remain.
1. You should see two knuckles when looking down
on your top hand & only 1 knuckle on your lower hand.
2. Grip pressure should be relaxed and without tension
3. The club should be placed in the fingers of the hands and NOT the palm.
ALIGNMENT
IF posture is the foundation to a swing and grip an
essential marriage then your alignment is the key to
making it all work like a well oiled machine.
1. Start off with 2 clubs on the ground, 1 where the ball
is and point it towards your target.
2. Place the 2nd at your feet parallel to the first
3. Remove the club by the ball and take your posture with your FEET, KNEES, HIPS & SHOULDERS
parallel to the club at your feet.
You may now feel that your pointing to the left of the target but the club face will now be taking dead arm at the flag!
