Seafood for Sailors

FROM the early 1950s until 1976, Murrays was a pubic house called the ‘Commercial’ where the more seedy clientele used to frequent this dockside inn. Then, in the mid seventies, Murray Dixon – nephew of the famous boat builder, and all round wag, Uffa Fox – set about converting the empty pub into a restaurant, using his name ‘Murray’ to begin a Seafood restaurant which today still holds dear the goal created some 35 years ago; “The best seafood simply cooked”
Present owners, Brian and Fran Bracken – who are now in their 20th season –  have been determined to carry on in the same vein. Using local fish and shellfish, and as much local produce as possible, they have now created their own reputation. You might even say they have exceeded their predecessors’ ideals by serving simply fresh fish presented in a beautifully modern way.
Whether your hunger is for a bowl of mussels, a scrumptious shellfish platter or even a three course table d’hote menu, all can be catered for.  An extensive wine list compliments the menu. And all of this is served in comfortable surroundings, with some of the old charm of  its past and a modern twist which has been added to the walls by local artist, Sally Pengelly.
