On Saturday the 21st of January 2017 women’s marches were taking place all around the world; America, Australia, Ireland, Kenya, Germany, Brazil, India, France, Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Ghana, Serbia, Greece, Czech Republic, Italy, Antarctica, here in England, and many more. Millions of women joined together to march for women’s rights, for human rights. Here in the Style office, although we didn’t make it to a march ourselves, we couldn’t help but feel moved and empowered by the; stories, images, and sheer number of women, children, men and dogs that marched for us.

Today, a week on we’re looking for ways to keep the momentum of that day going. As a result we have put together a list of ‘Go get ’em girl’ songs, and a list of 10 films that beautifully show the diversity and power of women.

Lets start with the ‘Rise Up’ playlist – perfect for in the shower, driving, to psych you up for that meeting, to dance around with your kids, and to set you up for that girls night out!

Salute – Little mix

This is your call to arms. Get those boots, heels, slippers on!

That’s My Girl – Fifth Harmony

Get up and get it!

Girl of Fire – Alicia Keys

No one can put your fire out!

That Don’t Impress Me Much – Shania Twain

Don’t settle for second best!

Run the world – Beyonce

We may not be in the White House, but we know the truth.

I Am What I Am – Gloria Ganynor

Don’t think we need to say anything about this one…

Confident – Demi Lovato

What’s wrong with being confident?

Rise Up – Andra Day

Because we can!

Wannabe – Spice Girls

How could we not include these girls?

Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves – Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin

Sing it sisters!

Feminist Friday night Films – These films are a celebration of women and what we can do. Whether it’s being a mother, a teacher, a warrior, or a friend.

The Help – “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”

Malificent – The love of a prince is nothing compared to love of the maternal kind.

First Wives Club – All about women coming together and supporting other women.

Brave – Explores the difficulties of a mother daughter relationship, but also celebrate in its strength.

Erin Brockovich – Persist and you can!

Matilda – Matilda really is the girl who can!

Orange is the New Black – Not a film, but a unique look at women and their circumstances. Find it on Netflix

Harry Potter Series – Hermione, Professor McGonagall, Mrs Weasley etc. Full of excellent role models!

The Heat – Two women excelling in a male dominated world. *May offend some due to language

Suffragette – The original marchers.

If you made it to one of the marches we’d love to hear your story and see your pictures. Equally if you have a favourite placard from the marches we’d love to see them too.

Lets keep the momentum going!
