Forthcoming concerts at Earl Mountbatten Hospice

Jan 24, 2017

The stage is being set for two very different concerts at Earl Mountbatten Hospice next month.

On Thursday 2 February, the John Cheverton Centre will host talented duo ‘Tapestry’ who are set to entertain concertgoers with a night of country/folk acoustic covers.

Andy and Lisa Dowden, of Tapestry, said of their forthcoming performance: “The John Cheverton Centre has become well known as a music venue, and we are looking forward to playing our blend of country and folk – from Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Joni Mitchell to George Harrison and Norah Jones”.

Proving that Earl Mountbatten’s concert series caters for every musical taste, the following performance on Friday 10 February is by award-winning international classical pianist Florian Mitrea.

Florian’s early passion for the piano led to a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2016 he was awarded Second Prizes at RNCM’s James Mottram and Verona International Competitions. He was a double prize-winner at the Hamamatsu Competition in Japan and the ARD Competition in Munich, as well as first prize winner at Lagny-sur-Marne.

Florian, whose performance is made possible thanks to a partnership with West Wight Arts Association, said: “This concert offers a thought-provoking insight into two contrasting human characters. On one side, the pieces by Liszt and Beethoven will spellbind the audience with their overwhelming energy and heroic nature, while on the other side, the pieces by Mozart and Schubert invite reflection and contemplation with their intimate sonority and philosophical character.

“I am delighted to share some of my favourite music with the Hospice’s people and local audiences. I am very passionate about bringing music closer to communities and creating the opportunity to share its true merit: music is a uniting force that binds us all together and reminds us of our power to do good,” he added.

Both concerts start at 7:30pm in the lounge area of the John Cheverton Centre. Tickets are £10, to include wine and canapés, and can be booked in advance by calling Tina Groves on (01983) 217311 or bought on the door.

The Earl Mountbatten Concert Series is an established programme to suit all musical tastes, featuring the talents of professional musicians from the Isle of Wight and beyond. It forms part of the varied Social Programme which is open to everyone and aims to show people that the hospice is a normal, kind and warm place where people can share experiences and create good memories together. The Social PRogramme also includes an Art Gallery, Community Choir and Craft evenings.
