The Royal Gastronomic Tour celebrates local produce on the Isle of Wight

Nov 14, 2019

Thirty guests to the Isle of Wight have been awakened to a world of different flavours and delicious recipes after indulging in a flavoursome weekend with The Royal Hotel

The weekend was dedicated to a selection of the Isle of Wight’s finest local food producers along with fine dining, masterclass cooking demonstrations, and a luxury stay at The Royal Hotel.

The weekend experience started with a Mermaid Gin tasting from Xavier, co-founder of Isle of Wight Distillery before guests were offered a kitchen tour, demonstration, and then treated to a gourmet 3-course meal at The Royal Hotel Restaurant. The following morning, guests were greeted by local farmer Will Steward from Living Larder, who explained the diverse produce he grows nearby Apse Heath. A masterclass from The Royals Head Chef, Jon-Paul Charlo then demonstrated how these ingredients are incorporated into the delicious dishes served at The Royal Hotel.

Guests then visited the Isle of Wight Cheese Company where Richard gave an inspiring talk on his journey so far and an insight into how the local cheeses such as Gallybagger, Isle of Wight Blue and Borthwood Brie are carefully produced here on the Isle of Wight.

Before heading back to the hotel, guests enjoyed lunch at the award-winning Garlic Farm, famous for their absolute devotion to the humble garlic bulb, followed by a talk by Natasha on the workings of the farm and some of her top tips on growing and cooking with garlic.

Guests then returned to The Royal Hotel for an evening of fine dining before departing the following day, with a Living Larder Vegetable bag and inspirational recipes from Jon-Paul.

Due to the success of the sold-out Gastronomic Tour this month, the tour will be repeated on the 20th – 22nd March 2020.

Spaces are limited and in high demand, so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.
